While I wish I could claim I took my site down for a week in protest of the SOPA/PIPA bills, the actual cause was way crappier. My provider did a kernel update that killed every Xen server on the host. User data had to be migrated off, the host reimaged, then all data migrated back over an apparently very small wire. The total downtime was about 5 full days.
Ironically the server was accessible just in time for me to black out my site (redirect) in protest of SOPA...
Sometimes I think I like building stuff more than updating the site - so I thought I'd update on what I've been up to 'building' wise..
I modified the Urban Terror source code to add in realistic bot pings (C++), which turned out very well..
Urban Terror (UrT) is one of a few good games that's been ported to, and runs well on Linux systems. It's similar to Counter Strike and has a variety of game types and servers, with new maps added frequently.
We've played regularly the last few years, so I thought I'd try setting up a
UrT server. I removed unneeded stuff from the package, cleaned up config files, then added simple scripts to start, stop and manage the server.
